U11 A

SPECIAL PLAYING RULES - U11A

  1. All games start at 6:30 PM with a 15 minute grace period for late arrivals.

  1. No game may go beyond 8:00 PM except to finish an inning. The umpire’s decision is final when calling a game for darkness.

  1. The maximum number of innings is 5.

  1. The Run Ahead Rule is in effect as follows: In a 5 inning controlled game if one team is up by 13 runs after 2 ½ or 3 innings or up by 7 runs after 3 ½ or 4 innings. The game is officially over if this occurs, however the umpire may ask both teams if they would like to continue playing until the time limit.

  1. The defensive team shall consist of a maximum of 9 players on the field. If a team does not have 9 players they should make every effort to borrow from the other team. Games will not be won by default in the U11A category in league play. Note that teams must have 9 players when playing in the Provincial Championships.

  1. All eligible players will appear on the batting order (whether they are in the field defensively or not). Ie. If 15 players show up for a game, all 15 go on the batting order and bat in turn.

  1. There are unlimited defensive substitutions, i.e. defensive players can rotate into the game at any time. However, the batting order cannot be changed.

  1. An offensive inning shall have a maximum of 6 runs per inning or 3 outs, whichever comes first.

  1. The "Infield Fly Rule" is not in effect.

  1. The “Dropped Third Strike Rule” is not in effect. On a dropped third strike, the batter is out and the ball is live (runners may advance at the risk of being put out).

  1. Players are required to wear a batting helmet, complete with an approved mask when batting and baserunning.

  1. SOFT TOSS PROCEDURES: Once a batter reaches 4 balls in the count, the batter will receive the number of soft toss pitches to continue the strike count when 4 balls are reached. (Example: the count was 4 balls, 1 strike, the batter would receive 2 soft tosses). Every soft toss thrown will be considered a strike (including tosses fouled off). On a soft toss hit, the hitter may advance to 2nd base as able, but will not advance past 2nd base. Runners on base may advance a maximum of 2 bases on a soft toss hit.

  1. Stealing home is prohibited. Runners may advance only on a hit ball.  Stealing 2nd and 3rd is permitted once the ball leaves the pitcher’s hand.

  1. In the event a player is injured during the game and is unable to take their turn at bat, the player will be removed from the batting order and out for the balance of the game, unless the coach announces that the player will be able to continue to play prior to the team’s next at bat.

  1. Pitching distance - 35 ft; Baselines - 45 ft; Ball-  11" Rawlings Red Dot; Home Plate- oversize (21”)
